National mental health project recognised at TechDiversity Awards

Head to Health, the digital experience connecting Australians to mental health support, has received a merit award in the Tech for Good category at this year’s TechDiversity Awards.

This award recognises the social impact the website has had in areas of diversity, equity and inclusion (DE+I) for Australians seeking mental health support.

Head to Health (www.headtohealth.gov.au) is the product of many years’ collaboration between Liquid and the Department of Health and Aged Care.

Liquid CEO and Partner, Fiona Armstrong, said: “We are incredibly proud of the recognition from TechDiversity of this significant project. Diversity, equity and inclusion were cornerstones of our co-design approach to this project, and the impact of Head to Health lies in the fact it was designed with all of those it was built to support.”

The department’s Project Director, Kristen Hodgson, said: “We are honoured that the national Head to Health website has received a merit award in the Tech for Good category at this year’s TechDiversity Awards. It’s a privilege to be part of the design, development, and implementation of such an important national service, providing an online pathway to navigating mental health and wellbeing information, services and treatment programs available across Australia.”

Head to Health (www.headtohealth.gov.au) has been developed through extensive co-design with over 350 collaborators and contributors, involving diverse communities of people with a lived experience, carers, and the mental health sector.

The creation of the digital experience involved a person-centred, trauma-informed research approach to ensure safe participation and co-design. This enabled people to provide rich insights into their experiences, ideas for an accessible final solution, and how it could be implemented to create lasting change.

The enhanced digital experience empowers Australians with diverse backgrounds and needs to navigate the complex and fragmented mental health ecosystem, and connect with the options for care best suited to their needs and preferences.

It helps more Australians experiencing mental health challenges to be seen, find support, and take the next steps for their health and wellbeing.

Head to Health (www.headtohealth.gov.au) has been recognised with several awards, including Best New Service or Application at the Better Future Gov Design Awards 2024, and the Good Design Award for Excellence in Design and Innovation in 2023.
