Liquid acquires digital engineering partner Speedwell

Liquid has acquired digital engineering company and long-time collaborator Speedwell, in a move that consolidates their extensive expertise under one roof.

Both founding players of the formidable Brisbane digital industry, Liquid and Speedwell have reputations for delivering standout solutions for a range of clients in government, education, health, insurance and industry.

Liquid has created award-winning strategic solutions and digital products for more than 20 years, underpinned by skills and expertise in human-centred design and population-level behaviour change and education.

Speedwell has also established a strong track record over the past two decades, with expertise in digital software engineering and Agile project delivery.

Liquid’s acquisition of Speedwell signals an ambitious growth journey in response to the market demand for experienced, multidisciplinary teams that can solve complex problems and enable digital innovation and transformation.

Liquid's Managing Director Michael Burke said: “We want to provide a genuine Australian-owned alternative in the market. Highly experienced, nimble, multidisciplinary teams with a track record in delivering exceptional solutions to complex problems.

“We have worked together for many years on large-scale government projects, including the Australian digital mental health platform Head to Health, and it makes sense to bring the companies together more closely.

“Together, the two companies can provide a deeper end-to-end capability that delivers real change from upstream strategy, research, and service design to full-scale delivery, system integration, and skills transfer to make change happen.”

Speedwell and Liquid’s Brisbane-based staff will come together under one roof at Liquid’s studio in Fortitude Valley, and all current work for both companies will continue without disruption. Speedwell will continue to operate in the market.

Speedwell’s previous owners Bruce and Catherine Young, who are leaving the company to pursue personal interests, expressed their complete support for the acquisition.

“It was important to us that Speedwell’s reputation and capabilities continue to deliver positive outcomes for all of the stakeholders. We’re delighted that the Speedwell team and clients are in great hands and we see a bright future for everyone involved.”
